Installing FreeBSD For Non-geeks And Beginners

I know they are floating all around the Internet. Installation guides for various operating systems. And now here’s another one. Now I don’t claim my guide is better than others, but this guide is written with the beginner and non-geek in mind. I’ve put a lot of effort into making it easy to read and hopefully easy to understand as well. I also tried explaining “why” as often as I could instead of just explaining “how”. The “why” part is perhaps not as elaborated as I could have wished for. But I hope you will find this guide useful.

When I first decided to write a guide on installing FreeBSD the release was 2.2. And one would install FreeBSD from 2 floppies. This option is still supported up and to release 7.4 but not covered in this guide.

"I wouldn’t even know where to get 2 floppies"

But to cut to the chase here is my guide on how to install FreeBSD. It will show you how to install FreeBSD from a CD-ROM image. The release we will install is FreeBSD 7.3. The latest release at the time of writing.
